Office Ergonomics

Ergonomics - Greek origin - from "ergon" and "nomos" meaning work and natural law.

Most work rules are not based on "natural law". The office environment is usually set up contrary to anything that resembles a natural law, not thinking about comfort and functionality.

The 1990's were an explosive decade of technology. The computer revolution took most companies by surprise. It seemed like overnight that there was a computer on every employee's desk. As much as the computer has made many of our jobs easier and more efficient, it has also created issues that were never seen before in the office. Now we hear terms like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Eye Strain, Computer Vision Syndrome, and Neck and shoulder Strain. No one knew what all this meant or what affect it would have on millions of computer users. This revolution has created a whole new industry.

Here are the facts from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
  • Muscular Skeletal Disorders (MSDs) most commonly occur to the back and upper limbs
  • Repetitive motions, such as typing, result in the longest absences from work - an average of 15 days.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome has the highest average of days away from work - 24 days.

At Source One we take "natural law" serious. When designing a workstation, we take the employee into consideration. Our goal is to put comfort and functionality together so that each employee can maximize a low risks body posture. This means an environment that allows people to adjust their workstation to there individual needs.

You can count on Source One to make the workstation safe, comfortable, and functional.
